We strive to be an enlightened Christian Community that follows the example of Jesus Christ, through whom we come to know God.
We are an Open and Affirming church that welcomes all people regardless of race, ethnicity, culture, gender, marital status, mental and physical ability, differing theological perspectives, age, socio-economic background, or sexual orientation. By affirm we mean that we recognize and value the humanness and uniqueness of each person as a gift of God. We believe there are no barriers to God’s love or to full participation in the mission of the church, including membership, fellowship, leadership, and employment.
We look to the Bible as a primary source for the word of God and we value a variety of interpretations of scripture. We recognize that God is revealed in other forms, some of which we know and many of which we do not.
We respond to God’s grace by generously sharing our energy, enthusiasm, and resources with our community and beyond. We strive to model a community of faith and spirit that offers justice, healing, and wholeness of life for all people.
We have a deep commitment to one another and find that a healthy faith development includes learning, the practice of our faith, and frequent rethinking of our beliefs. We believe that our faith encompasses affirmations, doubts, and questions.
We are part of the denomination of the United Church of Christ in which all churches are self-governed. Following our understanding of the Christian tradition, we enjoy the privileges, rights, and responsibilities of our church making its own decisions in covenant with God and other congregations.
We inherited a 2000-year-old tradition, going back to the early church, through the reformation and the congregational movement that originated in England. We are proud of an active ministry here in Auburn since 1875.
